I had a full day of chores, but I made some time this afternoon to take a hike at Fernald Preserve. The Hickory Trail is my favorite for getting my head right. Three miles through wetlands and opportunities to see waterfowl, beavers, and amphibians along the wetlands.

The wooded section provides a variety of woodpeckers, owls, reptiles and amphibians. You may also meet deer, turkeys, and squirrels. Today as I was returning to the parking lot at sunset, a flock of sandhill cranes announced their flight. Sunset on solstice is always special.
